The government is preparing for the possible introduction of quarantine for the winter holidays, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal said.
"We are not talking about the introduction of tougher measures at the moment, but we understand that the end of December and the beginning of the New Year holidays are meetings, fairs, close contacts between people. And this may significantly push the disease, which our medical system may not be able to withstand," he said, opening the government meeting on Wednesday.
Shmyhal clarified that on the initiative of the president, the government has developed support programs and is counting on the support of the parliament.
"Yesterday, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, spoke about important initiatives to support people and business if the quarantine is strengthened. I would like to emphasize: we are preparing for all possible scenarios, in particular for the possible introduction of quarantine during the winter holidays," the prime minister said.
