The Ukrainian Navy will purchase two minesweepers from the British government. This is reported The Duma with reference to own sources
Ships will be purchased this year.
We are talking about the purchase of British minesweepers of the Sandown type, which were built in the early 1990s.
A total of 15 minesweepers of this type were introduced into the Royal Navy, however, in the 2000s, three ships were transferred to Estonia, and three more to Saudi Arabia. Thus, HMS now has nine ships of this type, two of which will be transferred to the Navy.
Minesweepers have a length of 53 meters, a width of 11 meters and a draft of 2,3 meters. A pair of diesel engines of +1523 hp. accelerate the ship to 13 knots.
There is also an electric motor for silent operation. Minesweepers are armed with a 30-mm Mark44 Bushmaster II gun, three six-barreled 7,62-mm Minigun machine guns and a pair of general-purpose machine guns.
The ships are also equipped with radars and mine detection systems, including a powerful sonar. The ships will probably be modernized with more modern systems for searching for mines.
Let us remind you that on the night of June 17, the reconnaissance and diving ship of the French Navy ALIZE (A 645) entered the Black Sea.
