Volodymyr Zelensky summarized the results of the NATO summit

The result of the summit is good, but if there was an invitation, it would be ideal

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that the results of the NATO summit are good for Ukraine, but they would be ideal if Ukraine were invited to join the Alliance.

He said this during a press conference with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on July 12.

The president said that he and Stoltenberg discussed security issues and Russian aggression in detail.

"The outcome of the summit is good, but if there was an invitation, it would be ideal," he said.

He noted that at the summit in Vilnius "there was a result and concrete points that bring us closer to NATO." The president even added that "today, for the first time, he confidently says that Ukraine will definitely be in NATO."

"Sometimes it is very difficult to explain some things to partners, because we are at war..., we live in different conditions. We are in conditions where we have to survive, and our partners want to help us live. And we have to survive before we can live," the president emphasized.

According to him, such conditions push Ukraine to "quick processes", in particular, regarding the reform of the security structure in the world.

"Ukraine definitely understands that it cannot be a member of NATO while the war is going on... However, today, for the first time, it was confidently stated that Ukraine will be a member of NATO when the appropriate conditions are met. I understand by this that it will be when it is safe on our land," he added.

Zelensky emphasized that the invitation of Ukraine to NATO is a technical signal, but it could become a serious factor in motivating Ukrainian society.

He compared it to the moment of Ukraine's application to the EU, because this does not yet mean membership, but it is already a powerful mobilization for Ukraine and a powerful signal for Russia.

"If today the Big Seven agree to the first major declaration of security guarantees for Ukraine, then this will be a concrete fact, because it is written in the security guarantees that they are acting on the way to NATO. And this will be a very concrete signal," the head of state believes.
