The G7 agreed on a declaration on long-term security guarantees for Ukraine

The GXNUMX countries agreed on a joint declaration, which talks about the long-term security and economic support they plan to provide to Ukraine.

According to the head of OP Andrii Yermak, the declaration is a joint product that takes into account both the needs of Ukraine and the capabilities of partners.

At the same time, the declaration is a framework general document. The next step is to conclude a system of bilateral security agreements between Ukraine and individual guarantor countries, united by the framework of multilateral cooperation.

The document is entitled "Joint Declaration on Support for Ukraine".

"It is important that we, the G7, and Volodymyr met again today, after the G7 summit," said Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

US President Joe Biden, in turn, thanked President Zelensky for the fact that Ukraine protects the world.

"Today we are launching the G7 declaration, which will guarantee Ukraine's security in the future," Biden said.

Security guarantees include the following components:

— Measures to help Ukraine protect itself and prevent new aggression, in particular, the supply of weapons, support in the development of the defense industry, training, cooperation in the field of intelligence and cyber security.

— Measures in the event of a new aggression, which include immediate consultations to provide Ukraine with everything necessary for defense in the shortest possible time.

— Support in holding the Russian Federation accountable for aggression and economic and legal steps aimed at punishing Russia and increasing its war spending. Among them: further strengthening of sanctions pressure, freezing of assets, creation of mechanisms for recovery of reparations and prosecution of those guilty of crimes against Ukraine and Ukrainians in accordance with the norms of international law.

An important point of the guarantees is further support for the democratic development of Ukraine.

"This document is open and provides an opportunity for other non-G7 countries to join the security guarantees. The declaration is the first document that symbolizes the presence of an "umbrella" in the form of security guarantees," Yermak noted.

The leader added: it is important that Ukraine wins the war and signs security guarantees for our state before the NATO summit in Washington in 2024. They will operate until the country joins NATO.

For its part, Ukraine undertakes:

— Make a positive contribution to partner security and strengthen transparency and accountability measures for allied assistance.
— Continue to implement law enforcement, judicial, anti-corruption, corporate governance, economic, security sector and public administration reforms that underline its commitment to democracy, the rule of law, respect for human rights and media freedom, and put its economy on a sustainable path development
— Promote defense reforms and modernization, in particular by strengthening democratic civilian control over the armed forces and increasing efficiency and transparency in Ukraine's defense institutions and industry.
