As a candidate state for joining the European Union, Ukraine should soberly perceive the volume of tasks in the fight against corruption. Representatives of the European Commission and the EU Foreign Policy Service spoke about this at the Kyiv-Brussels telebridge "Fighting Corruption: Ukraine's Path to the EU", which was organized by the EU Anti-Corruption Initiative (EUACI).
The EU emphasized that they are helping Ukraine to build an anti-corruption structure "at the request of Ukrainian society", and the maintenance of these requirements indicates that the process is far from over.
"The process of joining the EU is like a marathon. Sometimes it may seem that the track is shorter, that it is a 10-kilometer race and the finish line is close. But no, it's 42 kilometers, and you have to think ahead." - explained during the discussion Asier Santillan Luzuriaga, the head of the department that takes care of the rule of law in the EU representation in Ukraine.

At the same time, the European diplomat emphasized that the preparatory work was carried out by the Ukrainian side in a high-quality manner, which enables the work to be carried out more quickly in the future.
"If we continue the sports analogy, training is also necessary to start a marathon. So in recent years, a lot of your efforts have gone into "training", that is, preparation, you have created institutions", he explained.
The representative of the European Commission, Wolfgang Nozar (DG NEAR), who joined via telecast from Brussels, added that decisions and specific actions are left to Kyiv. "We can help with advice, but the real work is for Ukraine," he explained.
