In Romania, the construction of the largest NATO base in Europe has begun, on the territory of which up to 10 servicemen and their families will be able to be accommodated. About this write Euronews.
The cost of the builder is preliminarily estimated at 2,5 billion euros.
"The military facility will have an area of 2800 hectares and a total perimeter of 30 km. Up to 10 NATO servicemen and members of their families will be able to permanently live at the base," — the message says.
In addition, the base will be equipped with airstrips, aircraft hangars, facilities for storage and placement of weapons, fuel and lubricants, simulators, schools, kindergartens, shops and a hospital.
Work on the NATO base has started with the basic infrastructure, i.e. access roads and power grid, and the construction of a new runway, which will be parallel to the existing one, will soon begin. They will be connected, and the airport infrastructure will be developed in the eastern part with new taxiways, parking lots and facilities for different types of aircraft.
The largest NATO military base in Europe may appear as early as 2040.
