Germany will support Ukraine in the war if others weaken - Scholz

Chancellor Scholz does not expect a quick end to the war in Ukraine

Chancellor Scholz does not expect a quick end to the war in Ukraine. Therefore, it is important "so that we can do what is needed for a long time." The leader of the Kremlin, Putin, should not rely on the relaxation of the West. Therefore, Germany intends to support Kyiv if other countries weaken. This was stated by Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz, it is reported NTV.

He called for German support to Ukraine to be long-term.

"This war probably won't end anytime soon. Therefore, it is important that we can do what is necessary for a long time, namely to continue to support Ukraine in its defense campaign," — said Scholz.

He emphasized that the Russian Federation, with its invasion of Ukraine, annulled all agreements on peace and security in Europe.

"Germany should even be ready to do even more if others weaken," — said the chancellor, apparently alluding to the uncertain political situation in the US ahead of next year's presidential election.

Scholz also unequivocally declared his support for further military aid to Ukraine.

"Russian dictator Vladimir Putin should not expect us to back down." he emphasized.

Scholz also mentioned the economic consequences of Russian imperialism – for Germany, and even more so for some other countries. "We know there have been consequences that also affect us," the chancellor said, referring to high energy prices. He emphasized that the government was still able to ensure a good energy supply, even if it is, of course, "a big financial challenge."
