The mayor of Kharkiv said he will continue to speak Russian despite the fine

Terekhov commented on the fine for addressing Kharkiv residents in Russian

The mayor of Kharkiv, Terekhov, after the decision of the language ombudsman of Kremen on a fine for using the Russian language, said that he would continue to communicate with Kharkiv residents in Russian.

According to Terekhov, he will use the Ukrainian language in official speeches, but he intends to continue to speak Russian with Kharkiv residents and urged not to divide Ukrainians.

"Officially, I will speak in Ukrainian, and as for my dialogue with Kharkiv residents, I will speak in Russian, because it is the language that 80% of Kharkiv residents speak today," Terekhov commented on the fine imposed on him on the air of a Ukrainian telethon.

We will remind you that Taras Kremen, the Ukrainian Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, fined the mayor of Kharkiv for addressing citizens in Russian. According to him, the mayor of Kharkiv used "non-state" language during his speech on the telethon "Edyny Novyni". In addition, the language ombudsman of Ukraine issued a "warning" to Terekhov for the fact that the Kharkiv mayor's social pages are also not in the state language.
