The counteroffensive that is being prepared should not be considered as a decisive moment in the conflict, Kuleba

Talk of a "decisive offensive" is dangerous

Allied countries of Ukraine should not consider the upcoming spring counteroffensive of the Armed Forces decisive, as it may affect the future position of the West.

This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba in an interview Financial Times.

The publication notes that many Western officials consider the counter-offensive of the Armed Forces, which may occur in the spring, as a decisive moment for Ukraine to achieve a breakthrough and get out of the "dead end of receiving more substantial aid."

According to Kuleba, if the future attacks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are unsuccessful, they may strengthen sentiment in the West regarding the need for negotiations and compromise with Russia. The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that all wars are a series of battles. He added that there are no alternatives for Kyiv other than the complete liberation of the territory of Ukraine.

"We must by all means resist the perception of the counteroffensive as the decisive battle of the war... If this offensive is seen as decisive but does not lead to 100 percent liberation of our territory, then some people may say that this was the last decisive battle and now we have time think of an alternative scenario," Kuleba said.

In addition, he noted that there is a minority in power in countries that support Ukraine that will insist on a slowdown in aid and a cease-fire, even if the "current dominant mainstream" is a sense of determination to continue resisting Russia.

"They are everywhere: in Washington, in Berlin, in Paris, in London. They will try to do something creative like Minsk-3," said the diplomat.

Recall that US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin believes that due to the significant depletion of Russian forces and Western weapons, Ukraine has "very good chances" of launching a successful counteroffensive in the spring of 2023.
