Odesa seaport is planned to be excluded from the list of UNESCO's world cultural heritage. The city received such a recommendation from the organization. This was announced by Odessa Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov during a session of the Odessa City Council.

"UNESCO status is not only an opportunity, but primarily a responsibility. It applies not only to the city government, but also to everyone who lives in this city and does business," the mayor said.

"We received a list of recommendations from the UNESCO committee, one of which is to exclude the Odesa port from the list of world heritage sites, but to include it in the buffer zone, where there will be restrictions on construction around the port," Trukhanov said during a session of the Odesa City Council .

Currently, the city is in the second stage of work on inclusion in the World Heritage List. The UNESCO committee provided Odesa with a list of recommendations, some of which must be implemented by June 2023, and the rest by February 2024.

Among the recommendations is the improvement of the condition of historical buildings and the creation of a comfortable urban public space by cleaning advertising signs, summer playgrounds, MAFs, air conditioners from the facades of buildings, etc.

"We are going to develop a code of visual rules and standards regarding the appearance of the facades of buildings that have entered the UNESCO zone. It is also necessary to create drawings and models of authentic fences, street furniture, flowerbeds and other types of urban environment in the historical style of the end of the XNUMXth and beginning of the XNUMXth centuries characteristic of Odesa," said the mayor. "We must develop fuses that will allow us to block attempts to negatively affect the environment a world heritage site. It is necessary to develop and implement such a system of management and control that will not allow damage to the heritage and will contribute to its preservation," Gennadiy Trukhanov added.
