After the ratification of the Istanbul Convention by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, a petition with a call to denounce the Law on its ratification appeared on the President's website, initiated by Yulia Tymoshenko, head of the Batkivshchyna party.
In addition to Tymoshenko and her party, the Orthodox Church of Ukraine and other religious organizations have already spoken in support of the petition and against the convention itself, sending an appeal to the President. In their opinion, the problem of the Istanbul Convention is that it introduces the concept of "gender" as a concept of human self-identification, thereby ignoring the fact of the existence of biological sexes that characterize a woman or a man, which can threaten the institution of the family in our country.
In Odesa, the Appeal to the President of Ukraine on the denunciation of the Law on the Ratification of the Istanbul Convention has already been signed by eight representatives of the Spiritual Council of Christians of the region and the Odesa Diocese of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
As Oleg Radkovskiy, head of the "Batkivshchyna" party in Odesa, said, at a meeting with the clergy, the heads of eight religious organizations of Odesa expressed their full support for Yulia Tymoshenko's initiative to denounce the Istanbul Convention in order to preserve the integrity of Ukrainian society, the institution of the family, and the future of our children. The initiative was also supported by the Odesa Diocese of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, on whose behalf the appeal to the President was signed by Bishop Opanas of Odesa and the Baltic.
It should be noted that a number of European countries - Great Britain, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Bulgaria, Armenia and Turkey refused to ratify the Istanbul Convention.
