French farmers threaten the authorities with new strikes

France

The head of the French trade union Jeunes agriculteurs, Maxim Buzar, said that on the night of Monday, January 29, he plans to block Paris and its suburbs due to the government's failure to fulfill the demands of the protesters. Bluzar announced this on the air BFM TV.

According to him, French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal "did not hear our demands", so the farmers decided to "change the method" of the protest and "organize a blockade of Paris and the inner suburbs of Paris".

"On the night from Thursday to Friday, we had about ten blocking points around Paris, mainly on the highways. What happens next week will be much bigger and stronger." - added the farmer.

Bluzar promises that the blocking will last for at least five days, "which will enable the Parisians to understand that they need farmers to live and that the capital is not self-sufficient."

Farmer protests in France, which have been going on for the last week, are accompanied by blocking of roads, demonstrative scattering of manure and straw in cities and on buildings, burning of tires and straw sheaves.

Farmers' complaints include increasing red tape from both France and the EU, as well as falling prices for their products. According to opinion polls, almost 90% of French people support farmers' protests.

The Prime Minister of France, Gabriel Attal, the day before announced a package of measures designed to meet the demands of farmers.
