Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey will sign an agreement on demining the Black Sea

The three Black Sea NATO states plan to sign an agreement in Istanbul on January 11

Three NATO Black Sea states — Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey — plan to sign an agreement on joint demining of the Black Sea area on January 11. This was announced by the Minister of National Defense of Turkey, Yashar Güler, at a press conference on Saturday TRT Haber.

He noted that the restoration of peace and stability on the Black Sea is important for the whole world, especially for the coastal states.

"Within the framework of the "triple initiative" initiated under the leadership of our country regarding the anti-mine danger in the Black Sea, we held the 3rd round of the meeting of the Black Sea Task Force on Mine Action with the participation of the delegations of Turkey, Bulgaria and Romania on November 22-23. We also plan to hold a signing ceremony in Istanbul on January 11, 2024, with the participation of the defense ministers of the three countries," — he declared.

Güler mentioned demining the Black Sea in the context of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, stressing that Ankara "thoroughly, responsibly and impartially" implements the Montreux Convention (regulates shipping through the Bosphorus and Dardanelles straits, which connect the Black and Mediterranean seas).

"Within the framework of the "Tripartite Initiative" launched under the leadership of our country against the mine threat in the Black Sea, on November 22-23, we held the third round of the meeting of the Task Force on Mine Action in the Black Sea, which was hosted by our Ministry." - reminded the minister.

Commenting on Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Güler emphasized that Turkey "continues efforts to find a solution to this crisis from day one."

In the context of full-scale Russian aggression, Güler also expressed hope that "this war, which affects the whole world, will end as soon as possible" and the territorial integrity of Ukraine will be protected.
