The new head of the Estonian Defense Union (Kaitseliitu) - the country's volunteer armed forces - Major General Ilmar Tamm said that he will study and partially adopt the experience of using drones in a full-scale Russian-Ukrainian war. He writes about it ERR.
According to him, the Ukrainians have created an effective multi-level air defense system that is capable of successfully shooting down Russian drones, even if they arrive in swarms.
"Because recently it is about turning to Ukraine's experience in repelling attacks using drones. In my opinion, the next step for us could be to create more mobile teams. They do not necessarily have to be based on military equipment, here you can use four different types of machines, form a stationary radar base, a machine gun team that will be able to detect approaching drones." he declared.
In his opinion, the main thing in this process will be the establishment of communication to receive operational information about the air threat. Tamm noted that thanks to the multi-level air defense system, the Ukrainians are able to shoot down drones like Shahed or Geran, "even when they fly in a swarm."
"The Russians are launching their drones so en masse, hoping that one of these swarms of drones will break through." - said the Estonian major general.
Among the other tasks of Kitseilit under his command, Tamm mentioned the protection of critical objects and the creation of checkpoints, as well as the development of networks to inform about suspicious circumstances concerning the actions of the enemy.
As reported, the Estonian Defense Union will start training drone operators within the scope of the state procurement, as well as practice combat operations in the conditions of the enemy's use of drones.
