Roman Abramovich will transfer to Ukraine 2,3 billion pounds ($2,8 billion), which was received for the sale of the football club "Chelsea", reports The Telegraph.
Abramovich announced the sale of "Chelsea" even before he was hit with the sanction letter. To process the sale of the club, Abramovich had to request permission from the British government. Abramovich stated from the beginning that the money from the sale would go to help victims in Ukraine. 2,5 billion pounds, which the billionaire promised to transfer for the benefit of the victims of hostilities in Ukraine after the sale of the club "Chelsea", has been suspended for some time.
"The government is on the verge of transferring £2,3 billion from the sale of Roman Abramovich to Chelsea to a fund for Ukraine, but has yet to receive final EU approval," the British publication reported.
Currently, according to reports in the British press, the government is concluding an agreement with Abramovich, according to which a fund will be created to help Ukraine, where 2,3 billion pounds will be transferred. Mike Penrose, the former head of the British office of the United Nations Children's Fund UNICEF, will head the fund. In the next few weeks, more detailed information about how the fund will be managed and what projects it will implement should appear.
