Mercedes-Benz presented the new generation AMG GT Coupe

Mercedes-Benz presented the second generation AMG GT. Despite the fact that externally the second generation of the model is almost no different from the first, technically Mercedes-Benz managed to create a completely new car.

The AMG GT will be offered with a twin-turbocharged 4,0-liter V8 in two variants.

At the start of sales, the coupe will be available in two versions - GT 63 and GT 55. The first has a power of 577 hp. (800 Hm) and allows acceleration to 100 km/h in 3,2 seconds. In the second engine develops 476 hp. (700 Hm), the car needs 3,9 seconds to accelerate to the first hundred. The most powerful version can accelerate to 315 km/h.

The new creation of the AMG division has been thoroughly redesigned to make it a real competitor to the Porsche 911 for the first time.

The body is made from aluminum, steel, magnesium and fibrous composites. The previous AMG GT was based on parts from the SLS, which made it difficult to lay out, but the new AMG design managed to increase rigidity, reduce weight and create more interior space.

The car was equipped with a new one active aerodynamic AIRPANEL system. It consists of two parts: the lower air intake consists of vertical louvres, and the upper one consists of horizontal louvres. The lower section opens when certain components reach high temperatures, and the upper one is activated at speeds above 180 km/h.

Another active aerodynamic element made of carbon fiber is hidden under the car. Depending on the driving mode, it performs different actions, but at speeds above 80 km/h, it automatically lowers. This allows the car to keep the trajectory better.

Gone is the torque converter transmission inherited from the SLS architecture. Instead of her an AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9G transmission is installed with a wet power take-off clutch, which made it possible to reduce weight and improve the response to pressing the gas pedal, especially during acceleration and load changes.

Transmission works in tandem with AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive, which can transmit up to 50% of engine power to the front axle via an electromechanical clutch. AMG claims that the power distribution is constantly changing to achieve maximum handling depending on the driver's actions and the driving scenario.

The car should be more comfortable, but at the same time stiffer when necessary. Drive modes include Glide, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Race and Custom.

The novelty shared the platform with the SL roadster, received a second row of seats with two seats for passengers up to 150 cm tall.
