Fines for not wearing face masks will be increased in Ukraine

The system of monitoring compliance with quarantine measures is limping.

Minister of Health Maksym Stepanov appealed to people's deputies with a request to support the government's draft law on increasing responsibility for non-compliance with anti-epidemic measures.

"Understanding that our control system is quite weak, back in July the government submitted a bill to the Verkhovna Rada regarding the strengthening of responsibility for non-compliance with all anti-epidemic measures, namely regarding the wearing of masks.

There it is clearly defined what the fine is for not wearing masks in the relevant institutions and facilities. It is from 10 to 15 tax-free minimums, that is, from 170 to 225 hryvnias. This is the amount of the fine that should be imposed on people who do not follow these rules," said the minister.

He also added:

"This bill has not yet been considered. I appealed this week to the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Dmitry Razumkov, and now I am appealing to the People's Deputies to finally support and vote on this draft law in the next plenary week, so that it enters into force. We need him very much at this time when we have such a growth of COVID."

According to Stepanov, the draft law stipulates that control over the observance of anti-epidemic rules will be provided by the National Police, the State Production Service and local self-government. Thus, they will be able to fine Ukrainians right on the spot.

The minister added that this draft law was developed by the Ministry of Justice at the time, but it is very important for the Ministry of Health.
