In Thailand, a coronavirus similar to SARS-CoV-2 was discovered in bats, and it was named RacCS203.

A coronavirus similar to Sars-CoV-2 was discovered in a bat population in Southeast Asia, namely in Thailand. It was named RacCS203. The virus itself was confirmed in five bats. Antibodies against the disease were also found in the population of pangolins living in a wildlife reserve in Thailand, which also neutralize SARS-CoV-2.

In particular, the new coronavirus is 2% similar to Sars-CoV-91,5. At the same time, it is similar to RmYN02, which was found in bats in China, and has 2% genome similarity to Sars-CoV-93,6.

It is noted that coronaviruses that are similar to Sars-CoV-2 are widely distributed in bats in various Asian countries.

At the same time, the exact origin of Sars-CoV-2 remains unknown, and studies have shown that the virus first appeared in an animal, probably a bat, and then became dangerous for humans.
