Ukraine has completed the preclinical phase of testing a vaccine against COVID-19, and it has good prospects. Now the clinical phase will begin.
This was announced today, October 22, by the head of the Ministry of Health, Maksym Stepanov.
The minister said that the American consortium was engaged in the development of the vaccine together with Ukrainian scientists.
— On Tuesday, we are together with the scientists presented the work to the president, which lasted six months, during the development and completion of the preclinical phase of the vaccine against COVID-19. This phase consists of several big moments. We can say that it has been passed, that as part of this preclinical phase it was found out that this vaccine candidate has quite good prospects, - said Stepanov.
According to him, since this phase is completed, the scientists will proceed to the clinical phase, which will be financed by the state. This will cost the budget approximately 100-150 million hryvnias.
— It is clear that there is a long period ahead, because we are talking about a serious immunobiological drug. I want to answer the skeptics that Ukraine cannot have its own vaccine. It's time to stop this inferiority complex, Stepanov emphasized.
In addition, the president of DiaPrep System Inc. Mikhail Favorov said when the Ukrainian vaccine will be fully ready. According to him, all test phases will be completed from 9 months to a year.
