The director of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation, Christopher Wray, said that the Covid-19 pandemic was probably caused by a leak of the virus from a Chinese laboratory in Wuhan. According to him, it was controlled by the Chinese authorities. He said about this in on the air on the Fox News channel on February 28.
“The FBI has long believed that the cause of the pandemic is most likely a potential incident at a laboratory in Wuhan. Here you are talking about a potential leak from a laboratory controlled by the Chinese government," said a US intelligence official.
Christopher Wray also suggested that Beijing is working to obstruct the investigation by the US and other members of the international community.
"The Chinese government, it seems to me, is doing everything possible to try to disrupt and confuse the work here. The work we do, the work our government and close foreign partners do. And it's sad for everyone," said the FBI director.
A few days earlier, The Wall Street Journal reported that experts from the US Department of Energy concluded that the cause of the coronavirus pandemic was most likely a leak in a laboratory in China.
On February 28, a UN investigator said that in his opinion, Covid-19 appeared as a result of a "dangerous" laboratory experiment in Wuhan. According to him, the research was conducted on "humanized" mice.
"The Ministry of Energy now says according to the FBI that the virus probably began to spread through an incident in a laboratory in China," the publication said.
The Ministry came to this conclusion after studying new information. The FBI reached a similar conclusion using its own sources in 2021.
