Minister of Health Maksym Stepanov said that according to the forecast, a spike in the number of coronavirus cases in Ukraine is expected already this week. He announced this at the Saturday briefing.
According to the head of the Ministry of Health, the introduction of enhanced quarantine is dictated by the fact that after the New Year holidays there will be a spike in morbidity. And in order to avoid a large wave of infected people, the government decided to limit contacts for citizens so that potentially sick people could not actively spread Covid-19.
According to the forecasts of the Ministry of Health, the number of infected people will begin to increase this week, and it cannot be allowed to turn into another large wave of the spread of the disease.
"If we had not introduced strengthened anti-epidemic measures now, then according to our forecasts, in a few weeks we would have had to introduce a stricter quarantine. The period of introduction of enhanced quarantine from January 8 to 24 coincides with the end of the incubation period of the incidence of Covid-19 in people who were potentially infected during the New Year holidays.
We predict an increase, and in some regions - a sharp increase in the number of infected people, who will, among other things, be a source of infection for others and will carry an epidemic risk," the minister said.
