During 2021, the Ministry of Health will implement a number of key changes to bring Ukraine closer to transplantation independence. In particular, the number of transplants carried out in Ukraine will be doubled. Health Minister Maksym Stepanov said this during an online briefing.
"In 2021, at least 250 transplants will take place in Ukraine. This is twice as much as last year. We plan to conduct all kidney and liver transplants that our citizens need in Ukraine. Also this year we will have a lung transplant for the first time. These are challenges that I am sure our specialists will handle," the head of the Ministry of Health noted.
This year, the Ministry of Health will introduce the possibility of transplantation of upper and lower limbs, which is especially relevant for Ukrainian servicemen who are injured due to Russian aggression in eastern Ukraine. In addition, a mechanism will be developed to attract to the transportation of anatomical materials and recipients all types of transport, in particular, civil aviation, air transport of the State Emergency Service, the National Police, and the State Border Service.
Stepanov also noted that in order to systematically develop the field of transplantation in Ukraine, the Ministry of Health will create a package of medical services for post-transplantation support.
As a reminder, at the end of December, the government approved the resolution "On the approval of the Regulation on the Unified State Information System of Transplantation of Organs and Tissues", which will ensure the full functioning of the transplantation system in Ukraine. The system started working on January 1.
