In Ukraine, in the near future, they plan to introduce a booster dose of the vaccine against Covid-19 to people over 60 years old. This was told by a health doctor of Ukraine, Igor Kuzyn.
"There is already a decision of the National Technical Group of Experts on the recommendation to allow administering booster doses to people 60 years of age and older. This decision will also enter into force in the near future," Igor Kuzyn said.
He added that a meeting of the National Technical Group of Experts on Immunoprophylaxis will be held on January 5. Access to a booster dose of the Covid-19 vaccine for everyone will be discussed there.
Note that there is a difference between a booster and an additional dose of the vaccine. A booster (revaccinal) dose is administered to increase the immune response/vaccine effectiveness, which decreases over time. At the same time, an additional one is introduced for better protection of people who, due to their health condition, receive lower effectiveness of vaccines compared to others.
The country's chief health practitioner Igor Kuzyn said that from the second half of January and in February, the country is expecting an increase in the incidence of Covid-19 due to the Omicron strain.
