Interpol admitted that the Russian Federation is pursuing the ex-director of the Odessa Opera for political reasons. Lyudmila Denisova, the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights, reported this on Facebook.
She said that the director's data was removed from the Interpol database due to their non-compliance with the provisions of the Charter.
"According to the information received from the National Police of Ukraine, the information about the citizen of Ukraine Evgenia Lavrenchuk, which was processed in the Interpol records at the request of the National Central Bureau of Interpol in the Russian Federation, was deleted due to their non-compliance with the provisions of Article 3 of the Interpol Statute, according to which it is strictly prohibited to carry out any interference or activity of a political, military, religious or racial nature," Denisova wrote.
Lavrenchuk's lawyers asked for permission to leave for Ukraine. But the Naples court refused them, explaining that the process of verifying the evidence of Russia, which had sent materials for extradition, had already begun. The prosecutor's office has 30 days to study them, after which the court must make a decision.
As a reminder, Yevgeny Lavrenchuk was detained in Italy at the request of the Russian Federation. In the Russian Federation, he is suspected of fraud on a large scale. The director was released from custody under house arrest.
