"Now I'm not sure that an armistice at the beginning of the war would be the right decision" - former Israeli Prime Minister Bennett

Naphthali Bennett

Former Prime Minister of Israel Naftali Bennett spoke in an interview about the first days of the war in Ukraine and his role as a mediator in the negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.

Naftali Bennett's nearly five-hour account of Israel, his work as prime minister and mediation in the early weeks of the war is published on his YouTube channels

The main achievement, in which Naftali Bennett highlights important concessions by both sides, Russia and Ukraine, in the negotiation process in the first weeks of the war.

"He gave me two big concessions," Bennett says of his meeting with Putin in Moscow on March 5, 2022. — refusal to de-Nazify and demilitarize Ukraine. In return, Zelensky agreed to Ukraine's neutral status and refusal to join NATO. There was only the issue of security guarantees for Ukraine, which was extremely difficult."

"Everything I did as a mediator was coordinated with the US, Britain, France and Germany as well," adds Bennett.

Why did the negotiations stop? According to the ex-head of the Israeli government, "after Buchi, when everyone saw the atrocities of the Russian Federation, hundreds of killed civilians with their hands tied behind their backs, the negotiations stopped."

"For the most part, after Buchi, Zelenskyi and the West broke off negotiations, and then it seemed to me that they were wrong. But today I don't think so. Perhaps then we would appease Putin too quickly, and other leaders of totalitarian countries would see this as a chance for their aggressive intentions," said Naftali Bennett.
