In Ukraine, there was talk of joint development of the Black Sea shelf with Romania

Joint development and production of natural gas from offshore fields with Romania can, in particular, increase the safety of operations in the Black Sea.

This was stated by Elena Zerkal, adviser to the chairman of the board of Naftogaz, during the online briefing "Five years of gas independence of Ukraine".

"It is very important for us to find points of contact that will allow us to be more attractive to our partners. In particular, we can talk about the joint development of the shelf," said Zerkal.

She reminded that the government recently adopted a resolution on the authorization of Naftogaz Ukrainy JSC to develop and extract natural gas from offshore fields.

"For us, this is one of the priorities of ensuring energy security and achieving the possibility of increasing gas production. In addition, Romania, which has already advanced much further than Ukraine in terms of development of its part of the shelf and has already confirmed gas reserves, but has not yet started development, may be interested in this," said the adviser to the company's board of directors.

She emphasized that this is why the Ukrainian market can be potentially attractive for Romania as well.

"Joint work on the development of the shelf can also be economically more attractive for us, and create conditions for us to ensure security in the Black Sea, since Romania is already a member of NATO, and it is very important for us to ensure the complete security of any work in the Black Sea." Zerkal added.
