Ukraine, Turkey, Russia and the UN signed an agreement on grain export

An agreement was signed in Istanbul to unblock Ukrainian ports for the export of grain.

The document is called "Initiative for safe transportation of grain and food products from Ukrainian ports".

The Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine, Oleksandr Kubrakov, the Minister of Defense of Turkey, and UN Secretary General Guterres signed the document. From Russia, the head of the Ministry of Defense Serhiy Shoigu acted as a signatory.

The main statements of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres:

  • Representatives of the Russian Federation and Ukraine overcame difficulties for the sake of an initiative that will help the well-being of humanity;
  • The agreement on the export of grain from Ukraine provides for the export of grain from the ports of Odesa, Black Sea, and Southern, accompanied by convoys, and the Turkish fleet will inspect empty ships arriving at Ukrainian ports.
  • The UN expects that Turkey will continue to play an important role in the implementation of the agreement on the export of grain from Ukraine;

A joint coordination center is being created to monitor the implementation of the Black Sea Agreement.
The memorandum signed with the Russian Federation envisages joining the UN in lifting restrictions on the export of Russian agricultural products and fertilizers to world markets.

Demining of Ukrainian ports will not be carried out after the signing of the grain agreement, safe fairways are used for the passage of ships.

The contract will be in effect for 120 days from the date of signing and will be automatically renewed unless either party notifies that they want to terminate it.
