The Parliament of Kazakhstan adopted amendments to the country's Constitution, which returned the name Astana to the capital and limited the term of the presidency to one seven-year term.
It became known on Friday, September 16.
According to the draft law, the duration of the presidential term in Kazakhstan will be seven years without the right to further re-election.
Minister of Justice Kanat Musin presented amendments to the Constitution at the meeting.
"The draft law contains a provision for a presidential term of seven years without the right to further re-election," Musin said.
It is noted that this norm will become an integral part of the Constitution and will not be able to be revised in the future.
The corrections also provide for the renaming of the capital from Nur-Sultan back to Astana.
"The issue of renaming the capital has been discussed by society for a long time, therefore, taking into account public opinion, this proposal was included in the draft law," the minister said.
On Thursday, deputies of the city's representative body, the maslikhat, voted unanimously for the return of the capital of Kazakhstan to its former name - Astana.
This is the fourth renaming of the city since 1997, when it was declared the capital of Kazakhstan, still Akmola.
The draft law was adopted in two readings. In both readings, all 50 senators and 98 Majilismen out of 99 voted for the amendments, one Majilis deputy did not vote.
Next, the draft law will be sent to the President of Kazakhstan, Kasim-Zhomart Tokayev, for his signature. He must sign the document within a month.
