The EU is not ready to provide Ukraine with a European perspective

Not all EU countries want to see Ukraine in their ranks.

So far, there is no consensus in the European Union regarding providing Ukraine with a European perspective. This was stated by Katarina Maternova, head of the Ukrainian support group at the European Commission, deputy director general of the European Commission's Directorate General for Good Neighbor Policy and Enlargement Negotiations.

"When we talk with Ukraine, we talk as partners. At the moment, and we speak quite openly about it - Europe is not in the state to be ready for the next step, there is no consensus on this matter," said Maternova, commenting on President Volodymyr Zelensky's appeal after the Ukraine-EU summit to provide a European perspective Ukraine.

The official also noted that she does not agree with the opinion that the current leadership of Ukraine is sabotaging European integration.

"When the new president came to power, it is quite obvious that there was a period when he understood things. Relations with the EU are a huge, complex complex, including the Association Agreement, which is an extremely complex treaty," she said.

Maternova noted that now, on the contrary, there is much more joint work and real daily interaction between the EU and Ukraine in a number of sectors.

In October, the Verkhovna Rada called for the recognition of the prospect of Ukraine's membership on the eve of the summit with the EU.
