The President of Bulgaria called Crimea Russian, and the sanctions were ineffective

He intends to be elected for the second time.

Bulgarian President Rumen Radev considers Crimea to be Russian territory and declares the ineffectiveness of anti-Russian EU sanctions. He stated this at a debate on Thursday with his main opponent for the post of president, Anastas Gerdzhikov.

Acting President Rumen Radev said that sanctions against Russia are ineffective.

"It is extremely important to have pragmatism in foreign policy. Sanctions against Russia appear ineffective. We need a pragmatic policy towards Moscow. Last but not least, we must not forget that Russia is a very important factor in the fight against global terrorism," the Bulgarian president noted.

To Gerdzhikov's clarifying question about whose Crimea, Radev answered: "He is now Russian."

Radev also noted that Russia cannot be our model of development, but Russia cannot be our enemy. According to him, there is a lot of speculation regarding Russia, and therefore the most important thing is to seek a dialogue with Moscow.

Let us remind you that in the first round of the presidential elections, Radev won 49,42% of the votes, and Gerdzhikov - 22,83%.
