Great Britain does not intend to transfer to Ukraine the Typhoon and F-35 aircraft, which are currently in service with the Royal Air Force, because Ukraine has chosen F-16 fighters as a priority, the British publication reports Telegraph with reference to the Prime Minister's spokesman.
In particular, it is said that the Ukrainian government chose Western fighter jets F-16 as more widely used.
A spokesman for the British Prime Minister said: "The Ukrainian government has decided to train its pilots on F-16 jets."
"Obviously, I believe, they are having discussions with other countries that use these aircraft and we are working with those countries," the spokesman added.
As reported by the TV channel Sky News, the spokesman added that the British Royal Air Force does not use F-16s because it has Typhoon and F-35 aircraft in service.
According to media reports, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi announces that important decisions on the creation of an aircraft coalition for Ukraine will be announced in the near future, but we still need to work on this issue.
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said that Britain is going to be a key member of this coalition of countries that will provide support. But, according to him, increasing the combat potential of aircraft is not an easy task.
The British Prime Minister confirmed that Britain will start training Ukrainian pilots relatively soon, which was discussed with Zelenskyi today.
This summer, the initial flight phase for groups of Ukrainian pilots will begin in Great Britain. This will give our defenders the piloting skills that will allow them to use different types of aircraft.
