The authorities of the European Union reached an agreement on the expansion of the bloc. North Macedonia and Albania will soon become its members. This is reported by Radio Svoboda.
"White smoke! We have conclusions about the expansion of the EU - unlike last year! North Macedonia and Albania", - correspondent Rikard Jozvyak wrote on Twitter on Tuesday, December 14.
At the same time, there is no announcement on the adoption of such an important decision for North Macedonia and Albania on official EU resources.
Later it became known that Bulgaria still vetoed this process because of the unresolved dispute with North Macedonia over history and national identity.
Sofia insists that Macedonia recognize that the Macedonian language is a dialect of Bulgarian, and the Macedonian nation has Bulgarian origins.
Bulgaria declared that it was not yet ready to lift the blockade of Skopje, and offered to separate the processes of North Macedonia and Albania, so that at least Albania could move forward.
But the opinion prevailed in the EU Council that the two countries should progress as part of one package.
