Charles III is officially proclaimed King of Britain

The Council of Succession announced the new king

The British Council of Succession officially proclaimed Charles III King of Great Britain in a historic ceremony at St. James's Palace.

The announcement ceremony was attended by the leaders of the British parties, Prime Minister Liz Truss and former Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Members of the royal family were also there.

At the Council, Charles III vowed to preserve the Church of Scotland, as Scotland has a separation of powers between church and state. In particular, after a short speech in which he paid a tribute of love and respect to the late queen, Charles III, with a Bible in his hands, pronounced the oath to the kingdom and to each of its constituent parts - England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

His Majesty assured the British that he would uphold the country's constitutional foundations and that the values of the monarchy would remain intact. He promised to serve his compatriots "with loyalty, respect and love."

Charles III then signed a document certifying his oath.

His Majesty announced in a speech that he was conferring the title of Prince of Wales on his eldest son, William. Thus, William officially became the heir to the throne. Before that, the title of prince was held by Charles himself for 70 years.

Kate Middleton will become the Princess of Wales, taking the title for the first time since the 1997 death of William's mother, Princess Diana.

The king also said that he loves Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle, who moved to the United States.

The new king has already begun his immediate duties. He held an audience with the Prime Minister of the country, Liz Truss, and met with members of the Cabinet of Ministers.

Charles (Carl) III, who is now 73 years old, became the oldest monarch in British history to ascend the throne. Before that, the oldest king at the time of his reign was William IV — he was 1830 years old at the time of his coronation in 64.

Elizabeth's son Charles the Second became the king of Great Britain after the death of the mother. She stood at the head of the monarchy for 70 years and died at the age of 97.

Britain mourns the loss and honors the long reign of Elizabeth II. Flags are flying at half mast across the country.

A number of sports competitions, football matches and cultural events have been canceled or postponed in the country. Britons and tourists travel to Balmoral, Windsor and Buckingham Palace to leave flowers, words of gratitude and condolences to the Queen and her family.
