Members of the British government believe that after the rebellion of the head of "Wagner" Evgeny Prigozhin, they should start preparing for the scenario of the unexpected collapse of Russia, the edition of The Times, citing its sources.
As the newspaper writes, even at the beginning of the full-scale war unleashed by Russia, it was assumed in Britain that it could end in instability within the country for Moscow. However, Prigozhin's "march to Moscow" and the speed with which it developed prompted diplomats to prepare an action plan for various scenarios.
"We have to wait and see what happens next. This could be just the first chapter of something new,” said the interlocutor to The Times.
The chief secretary of the treasury of the United Kingdom, John Glen, called the events of the last days an "internal matter" of Russia. At the same time, the former British military attaché in Moscow, John Foreman, said that a successful seizure of power by Prigozhin would be the "worst-case scenario", calling him a "fascist" about whom one should have no illusions.
"We thought that all this would happen gradually. No one expected such an unexpected and quick "march to Moscow", - said John Forman, adding that Western diplomats were puzzled by the pace of development.
