Belarus introduced sanctions against the European Union against European officials, thus responding to the sanctions from the EU. This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that they oppose the development of confrontation, but cannot help but react to unfriendly actions. It is also noted that further promotion of the "sanction flywheel" by the European Union may lead to serious consequences.
— For example, to the withdrawal of Belarus from joint programs and projects, the review of the level and modality of diplomatic presence up to the decision on the expediency of maintaining diplomatic relations, — the statement says.
We note that today the European Union agreed on sanctions to be imposed on Belarusian officials. The list of persons to whom they will apply will include 40 people. At the same time, President Alexander Lukashenko himself is not in it. Sanctions will enter into force on October 2, immediately after the written publication of the document.
