How the purchase of new equipment at Odesa Children's Hospital No. 3 now helps treat children with COVID-19

Taking into account the complex epidemiological situation, educational medical institutions are working to exhaustion. However, there are such exceptions as City Children's Hospital No. 3

Taking into account the difficult epidemiological situation due to the coronavirus pandemic, medical institutions are working to the limit. In addition, the consequences of the fact that for many years Ukraine did not pay due attention to the medical field became apparent. The same applies to Odessa. However, there are such exceptions as City Children's Hospital No. 3, which currently accepts children infected with COVID-19.

Fortunately, even before the pandemic, various equipment was purchased for the hospital, which greatly facilitates both the work of the staff and the conditions of the patients' stay in the institution. As the chief physician Elena Artemova said, the hospital has specialized multifunctional beds for the intensive care unit. There are no such beds in any city hospital.

- We bought the beds two years ago thanks to sponsorship. They are very convenient for children aged from one month to five years. The beds are equipped with electric lifts, with folding side surfaces - in short, this is a transforming bed. All that is necessary for an intensivist to work with a child and perform certain procedures is there. Today, the number of patients in intensive care is increasing, we plan to increase the number of beds, taking into account the unfavorable epidemiological situation, and we will purchase suitable equipment if there is a need to provide assistance to an even larger number of patients. Thanks to the funds allocated by the deputy of the Odessa City Council Viktor Novak, we have such an opportunity. And such beds are a convenience for us and for the child, - said Elena Artemova.

In addition, the hospital has a portable ultrasound device, which was also purchased thanks to the efforts of Viktor Novak - such equipment is available only in private clinics in Odessa. Taking into account the fact that the stationary ultrasound device is not suitable for moving around the hospital, the presence of such a device is extremely necessary. Especially in an institution where patients with coronavirus are treated.

- The portability of this device allows us to come to any patient. It is equipped with all the sensors that a doctor needs to make a diagnosis and prescribe the appropriate treatment, the head doctor emphasized.

In turn, Deputy Viktor Novak reminded that Odessa is a city of millionaires, and previously only the Odesa Regional Children's Hospital, which had to work under heavy load, could provide appropriate treatment for children. And with the advent of the coronavirus, the city became even more in need of institutions with the necessary equipment.

- The equipment that was purchased a few years ago made Children's Hospital No. 3 better prepared for the reception of those infected with COVID-19. Earlier, we faced a problem when in Odessa there were no surgical beds for children on the basis of city medical institutions. The appearance of the department of minimally invasive surgery in this children's medical institution allowed to improve the quality of medical care provided to the children of the city, Viktor Novak summarized.
