Georgy Moshkovsky: "When we elect a deputy, he forgets that he was hired"

There is nothing left before the elections: we will not have time to look back, and new people will sit in the local councils. We met with Georgy Moshkovsky, a candidate for deputy from the Malinovsky district of Odessa, for whom the city council may become a debut in big politics.

— What prompted you to run for office?

— I consider being a deputy as the next stage in life, which must be overcome in order to take on serious responsibility, expand the scope of opportunities and realize the intended goals. Love sets goals for itself, and the goal must be practically unattainable - then meaning appears in life.

I also want to establish a connection with the people of Odessa. Now there is an official or a deputy who makes decisions - and there are people who do not participate in his decision-making, but already see the result. The initiative usually comes from the top. For me, the dialogue with residents is a powerful tool for understanding the essence of the problems they have, as well as the opportunity to choose the right methods for solving them. I am open to fruitful work and aim for a positive result.

I have a predisposition to unite people around me, and this skill came in handy when I started to engage in social activities.

— One of the points of your pre-election program is the fight against drugs. How are you going to continue this activity already as a deputy?

— Since November 2018, I have been the head of the Narko-stop organization. Drugs are a big problem for the area I live in, and I couldn't get past it.

As a deputy, I want to use all possible levers of influence. Naturally, doing this exclusively in the legal field: drug dealers deserve that radical measures be applied to them, but people have become tired of such methods in the last few years. We can achieve the result only by uniting the efforts of both the public and the law enforcement system, mass media, local residents and deputies.

For example, as a deputy, I can organize the installation of cameras in difficult areas, and then law enforcement officers will no longer say that they did not see this or that episode. The Anti-Corruption Assembly, in which I work, will help us here. After all, corruption contributes to the fact that drugs are calmly sold on the streets of our city.

— The fight against corruption is also key in your program.

- Yes, it is. When you click on such a hot spot as a drug den, people who are tied to this "business" immediately start calling you. Of course, when I have the mandate of a deputy, it will be more difficult to deal with me, it is pressing through the law enforcement system and the courts. Of course, they can quietly hide it in some closet, but I'm not afraid of it: why live then, if you don't take risks and are afraid of everything? Being a deputy, I will have a status that will allow me to speak as loudly as possible about this problem. Of course, a local deputy is not a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, but you have to start small.

— You also emphasize the importance of sports. What do you mean?

— Sport is primarily a direction. While we are dealing with infrastructure, our youth must find a job, see the right direction. I am the founder of the "Svora" organization, which is engaged in both sports and cultural development of youth. That is, it is work with children and youth. Young people need to be given a direction, regardless of what they are predisposed to: sports, medicine, jurisprudence, and so on. Again, if we return to the issue of drugs, it is one thing to fight them, and quite another to provide them with an alternative. In my opinion, it is even more effective.

— What priority problems need to be solved in the Malinovsky district?

— Today it is infrastructure and communications. Construction companies are active in the city, erecting high-rise buildings, but no one deals with the old fund. Low-rise buildings, the private sector - almost no one pays attention to them. Landscaping works are carried out just around new houses, because these are expensive areas, and old housing estates cannot be reached. This social injustice must be corrected. I myself live in such a house. Once, during a strong wind, an eaves fell in front of me. If he got into a person, he would most likely kill him on the spot. This is just one of many examples.

Often, budget funds for improvement are allocated to the areas where the deputies and officials themselves live. In addition, let's not forget about corruption: unfortunately, we have everything based on "kickbacks". If they were not there, the work would have been done twice as much, and still we would have reached both the old fund and the private sector.

— In your opinion, what should a deputy be?

— The deputy must be seen, it is necessary that he be accessible to the people and their problems. He must work on the ground to understand what he is dealing with. Unfortunately, many people do not do this - when we elect a deputy, he forgets that he was hired for a job.
