The Washington Post called Odessa a "hot spot" of the second wave of the coronavirus in Europe

The famous American publication The Washington Post published an article dedicated to the coronavirus in Odessa

The famous American publication The Washington Post published an article stating that the situation with COVID-19 in Odessa is very serious, despite the fact that local residents are careless and do not comply with quarantine measures. The authors argue that Odessa is a "hot spot" for the coronavirus in Europe.

You can read the relevant material on the site The Washington Post.

The article indicates that the tourist season in the south of the country with crowded nightclubs and other places of mass attendance has led to an outbreak of the disease throughout Ukraine. The author writes that local residents ignore quarantine measures, many simply "don't believe" in the coronavirus, very few wear masks, and they are looked at as panickers.

The material also includes the story of Odessa taxi driver Ihor Trofymchuk, who in August took his 82-year-old mother Nina to celebrate her birthday at the Zatoka resort, after which they both contracted COVID-19. The taxi driver is sure that they got infected on vacation.

The virus in the mother of the hero of the material appeared three weeks later after a vacation in Zatoka. The woman died in the intensive care unit of the city hospital No. 5 before being connected to the ventilator. Trofymchuk himself suffered bilateral pneumonia.

The authors cited the words of doctors who claim that the outbreak of the coronavirus in the Odesa region occurred precisely because people did not observe precautionary measures — they did not wear protective masks in crowded places and did not maintain social distance. According to them, the overcrowded Deribasovskaya and Arkadia (traditionally the most visited places in Odessa by tourists) were the main sources of infection - more than twelve thousand cases of coronavirus have been registered in the region, two thirds of them are tourists and guests, many of whom returned with the virus to their villages points

The author urges: it is not too late to change your mind and start observing anti-epidemic measures, which is especially important, given that medical facilities are not coping with the disease.
