In Kazan (the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia), a 19-year-old boy opened fire with a gun at school No. 175 on Fayzy Street.
During the attack on a school in Kazan on Tuesday, May 11, nine people died, more than 20 were injured, many in very serious condition. This was reported in the press service of the President of Tatarstan (RF) Rustam Minnikhanov.
"There are already nine dead," the press service said, clarifying that two teachers were among the dead.
21 people were taken to hospitals with serious injuries, six children are in intensive care.
The head of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnykhanov, said on the TV channel Russia 24 that there was only one person who opened fire in the school, and he was detained.
"The terrorist has been arrested. He is 19 years old, the weapon is officially registered on him, the other accomplices have not been identified," he said.
The name of the killer became known later. He is a Tatar, his name is Ilnaz Galyaviev. He is a former student of this school.
It is already known that the killer legally purchased the weapon on April 16 of this year, and the permit for its storage was obtained two days before that. A hunting ticket was issued to Galyaviev on February 16. Now law enforcement officers are checking the legality of issuing a gun permit. It is noted that the guy was nowhere to be seen.
Entering through the main entrance, a 19-year-old former student of the institution started shooting almost from the threshold. To escape, children jumped out of windows.
The head of Tatarstan Minnykhanov added that investigative actions are already underway.
"Everything that is needed will be (provided). Assistance will be provided to both the school and families. Today is a great tragedy for our entire republic, for our country. We are very sorry that this happened," he noted.
The authorities of Tatarstan declared May 12 a day of mourning.
