SBU employees detained the chief state inspector of one of the operational departments of the anti-smuggling and violation of customs rules of the Odesa customs office for systematically obtaining illegal benefits.
It was established that the official organized a corruption mechanism during the customs clearance of imported goods. For a fixed amount of money, the attacker ensured the unimpeded passage of containers through the customs border.
The operatives of the special service documented that in January of this year, when millions of people were left without electricity due to the massive missile attacks of the aggressor, the attacker demanded and received a bribe for the smooth customs clearance of a container with lanterns.
Law enforcement officers detained the suspect in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine when receiving another bribe.
Within the framework of criminal proceedings under Part 3 of Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, investigative actions are ongoing.
The involvement of other customs officials in corrupt activities is being checked.
