In the Chernobyl zone, sensors are checked after a significant increase in the radiation background in the exclusion zone was recorded.
This was reported by the press service of the State Agency of Ukraine for the Management of the Exclusion Zone.
"The radiation background on the territory of the exclusion zone is within permissible levels. Now in the exclusion zone, the metrological verification of the sensors, which recorded a "significant" excess of the control levels of the power of the equivalent dose, is taking place," the message says.
In addition, the Save Dnipro organization previously stated that huge jumps in radiation pollution were recorded at Chernobyl.
"On November 17 and 18, radiation pollution indicators jumped sharply at the monitoring station near the new storage facility for SVYAP-2 spent nuclear fuel. Thus, on November 17 at 18:08 p.m., the indicators reached an incredible 124000 NZP/hour, while the standard even for this polluted area is 210 NZP/hour, which is almost 600 times less, and on November 18 at 11:45 a.m. at the nearby station "Outlet Channel " — 62 NZP/hour, that is, almost 400 times higher than the usual value," the message states.
It is interesting that precisely on November 18, spent nuclear fuel from the Chernobyl NPP was reloaded for the first time into the new storage facility SVYAP-2 for long-term storage (up to 100 years).
