Bad weather in Odessa: forecasters predict frost for another week

Rescuers installed three heating points in Odessa.

Once again since the beginning of the year, Ukrainians have been experiencing blizzards and frosts. After the sunny days, from February 9 to 11, when the temperature reached 5-10 degrees Celsius, the cold weather again came to Ukraine and Odesa.

At night, from February 11 to 12, Odesa was covered by Cyclone Volker. At 10:7 p.m. it started raining, because of which the roads were covered with ice later, already at sub-zero temperatures. By morning, snow fell, the temperature dropped to 10-10 degrees below zero, and wind gusts reached 12-XNUMX m/s.

The city authorities immediately started liquidating the threat. On February 11, the vice-mayor of Odessa, Dmytro Zheman, convened an urgent meeting with the participation of the heads of the district administration, heads of departments of the Odessa City Hall, municipal enterprises, representatives of the State Emergency Service and the National Police to discuss the plan to clear the city of snow. The authorities used a new technique: from 3:00 a.m., 98 units of special equipment of the KP "City Roads" worked to sprinkle the roads with a sand-salt mixture. And only after a couple of hours, when the mixture removed a layer of ice, the snow plows were put into operation. "Because if we initially started to remove snow with our snow removal equipment, and before that we did not cover it with a sand-salt mixture and did not let this mixture work, then we would, in fact, make one big skating rink out of the city," explains Dmitry Zheman .

At 5:00 a.m., the employees of the housing and communal services began to take turns cleaning the streets and sidewalks. Natalya Mostovskikh, director of the city economy department, reported that the trajectory of cleaning has not changed: first of all, roads are cleaned, then exits from entrances, passages to infrastructure, stops and pedestrian crossings.

The "Gorzelentrest" and "Odeshorsvet" brigades were on duty all night to promptly prevent the collapse of trees and cut off electricity. In the morning, the transport left according to schedule.

The rescuers installed two mobile heating points - in the Kyiv and Suvorovsky districts, and one stationary one - on the Kulikovo field.

Schools were open, however, Elena Buynevych, director of the Department of Science and Education, advised parents to leave their children at home if possible. Skipping was not considered absenteeism.

Bad weather was not without accidents. Employees of the State Emergency Service went to the aid of law enforcement officers who were trapped by a snowstorm. In the village of Sobolivka, Odesa Region, a car belonging to the National Police left the roadway.

An ambulance that stopped outside the village of Kapustyanka had to be pulled out of the snow. The car was carrying a patient born in 1939 with pneumonia.

Unlike last time, there were no fallen trees or broken power lines, but forecasters note that the frost will stay with Odessa residents for the next week.
