"As a result of the stoppage of the power units of the station, warm water does not reach the cooling ponds of the ZNPP, as a result of which the water temperature dropped to about +13 degrees," the report says.
This led to the mass extinction of fish in the pond. Now the pond is stocked with two types of fish - warm water tilapia and Asian catfish, which were introduced about 25 years ago to ensure environmental cleanliness.
The fish perform a sanitary function, destroying green algae and keeping the cooling tubes of the turbine condenser clean. Under favorable conditions, when the temperature in winter never fell below +18 degrees, the fish multiplied. the shore will throw out about a thousand tons of dead fish.
