On Thursday, May 4, the Higher Anti-Corruption Court ordered the arrest of the mayor of Odesa, Gennady Trukhanov, with the right to post bail in the amount of UAH 13 million, by satisfying the request of the prosecutor of the SAP to change the preventive measure in the Odesa "Krayan" case. On April 25, VAKS chose a preventive measure for Trukhanov in the form of almost UAH 31 million in bail. The head of the Odesa City Council did not post bail, so the SAP requested to change the preventive measure to arrest with an alternative to bail.
The mayor of Odesa is accused of expropriation 92 million UAH during the purchase of the Krayan factory building. In 2018, the court released him on the bail of Dmytro Golubov, a People's Deputy from the BPP at the time. The prosecutor insisted that the circumstances had changed since then and called for the strengthening of the preventive measure.
"Considering the fact that the accused did not pay UAH 30,866 million in bail, determined by the court, the prosecutor appealed to the court to change the preventive measure from bail to detention with an alternative to bail"- the SAP
VAKS, after hearing the arguments of the parties, partially granted the petition and imposed a preventive measure on the accused in the form of detention for a period of 60 days with the alternative of paying UAH 13,420 million in bail.
To comply with the court's decision, the accused was taken into custody in the courtroom.
Recall that The mayor of Odesa and other persons are accused of misappropriating budget funds in the amount of over UAH 92 million as a result of the implementation of the scheme to purchase the premises of the administrative building of the former "Krayan" plant into communal property at a double inflated price.
