Turkey wanted to mediate between Ukraine and Russia

Turkey advocates peace with an emphasis on the situation of the Crimean Tatars.

The President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, said that Ankara can act as a mediator between Kyiv and Moscow in the negotiations on Donbass.

"We advocate for the establishment of peace in the region, especially when it comes primarily to the Crimean Turks," the Turkish president noted.

The head of the republic also noted that Turkey is ready to mediate and intends to hold negotiations with both Ukraine and Russia. He noted that for this he has established contacts with both parties.

"We have discussed these issues many times with friendly Russia and, especially, with the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin. We are ready to mediate, conducting negotiations both with Ukraine and with Russia. We would like to participate in solving this issue," Erdogan said.

However, the Russian Federation already announced today that they do not see the point in such a format of negotiations. Putin's press secretary said that Russia is not a party to the conflict, and therefore negotiations should take place between Ukraine and the "republics" of Donbass.
