NASA has begun flight tests of Joby Aviation's eVTOL electric taxi plane in California.
The eVTOL aircraft is a vertical take-off and landing device. In the future, it will serve as an air taxi for those in cities and surrounding areas across the country, adding another mode of transportation for moving people and goods.
NASA wants to collect data on the characteristics of the aircraft in flight.
"This testing will help identify gaps in current standards that will benefit the industry's progress in integrating vehicles into space," NASA said.
