In the 7 months of 2021, the State Statistics Office in the Odesa region counted 232 cases of suicide. Thus, suicide occurs on average every day.
Last year, the suicide rate was just as high. For the whole of 2020, 412 such cases were recorded in the region.
According to this terrible indicator, the Odesa region could take 18th place in the world ranking, between Latvia and Nigeria.
At the same time, the suicide rate among teenagers has increased significantly in Ukraine as a whole. Only in the period from January to May inclusive, 149 young men and women died of their own free will.
The World Health Organization (WHO) draws attention to the fact that almost 800 people in the world voluntarily take their own lives every year. Every hundredth case of death on the planet is the result of suicide.
