In Odessa, bank cards can be blocked for water debtors

Only half of consumers have paid their current bills

Due to the upcoming vacations and the summer season, residents of Odessa are in no hurry to pay for water. Consumers owed Infoxvodokanal a quarter of a billion hryvnias for the services provided. This was reported in the press service of the enterprise.

Despite the increase in water consumption and, accordingly, the expenses of the water utility for its preparation and transportation, only half of the consumers paid current payments.

In order to prevent interruptions in the supply of water, the company's lawyers intend to use the legal right to collect the debt in court.

The latest legislative changes significantly simplify this work. Without summoning the parties, the court issues an order for debt collection. Now it is not difficult for private and state executors to receive a quick response from all Ukrainian banks about the debtor's availability of open accounts and funds on them. Moreover, immediately after receiving such information, accounts are seized, payment cards are blocked, and the debt is collected from them automatically.

Vodokanal lawyers say that card blocking is now one of the most effective and widespread means of debt collection. The number of materials prepared for the trial reaches hundreds of thousands. And according to preliminary estimates, a third of consumers in case of non-payment of the debt by the end of the month risk receiving a court order and, accordingly, may not be able to fully use their bank cards.

The analysis of debts shows that the most disciplined payers are pensioners. And the biggest problem for Vodokanal is debts from one month to three, here we are talking about subscribers who think that a few hundred hryvnias are pennies. It is these "kopecks" that add up to tens of millions of hryvnias. Therefore, the lawyers intend to file a lawsuit regardless of the amount of the debt, but warn - via SMS and Viber messages.

Now the flow of complaints from debtors whose payment cards have been blocked has increased. Therefore, so that there are no unexpected surprises in the form of a non-working card at the cash register of a store or on vacation, the employees of the water company recommend that consumers do not take the case to court. This, in addition, increases the debtor's expenses at the expense of judicial and enforcement fees.

Viber and Telegram chatbots have been implemented, with the help of which you can conveniently check the status of your personal account, submit statements and make payments.
