The Swedish biotechnological company Cyxone, which specializes in the development of drugs against rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis and ARVI, has submitted an application for testing its products in Ukraine.
This is stated in a press release on Online companies, except Ukraine, applications for the test were submitted in Slovakia and Hungary.
The Swedes want to involve Ukrainians in the second phase of clinical trials of the effectiveness of the drug for patients with rheumatoid arthritis "Rabeximod" in the treatment of COVID-19.
Cyxone has already received regulatory approval for the start of the second phase of a double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial in Poland. During the study, the effectiveness and safety of oral (that is, through the mouth) use of "Rabeximod" will be evaluated to prevent the progression of the disease in hospitalized patients with COVID-19 and reduce the time to recovery.
300 patients in clinical centers, including in Poland and three other European countries, will take part in the study.
Cyxone plans to announce preliminary results in the third quarter of 2021.
In the course of clinical trials, the effectiveness of Rabeximod is evaluated in patients with moderate severity of COVID-19 who require oxygen therapy, but not support for artificial lung ventilation.
If the research results are positive, Cyxone intends to obtain permission to use the drug in emergency cases. In addition, the company will continue studying the effectiveness of Rabeximod for the treatment of COVID-19 and other viral respiratory diseases, as well as rheumatoid arthritis.
