Consideration of the "Maidan case" in the courts is delayed — Prosecutor General's Office

The Prosecutor General's Office notes a tendency to delay consideration of materials on charges in "Maidan cases" by courts

The Prosecutor General's Office notes the tendency to delay the court's consideration of materials on accusations in the "Maidan cases" and emphasize the importance of issuing decisions on arresting the defendants in absentia.

"Currently, sentences against 21 people (on charges of crimes committed against participants in the Revolution of Dignity - IF) have entered into legal force... We also think that 7 sentences in 21 years is too few... That is, the issue of delaying the judicial review is very painful," said Alexey Donskoy, the head of the Maidan affairs department of the Prosecutor General's Office, at a press conference in Kyiv on Friday.

According to Donsky, since the beginning of this year, more than 2 people have been recognized as victims of "Maidan cases", 37 people have been brought to criminal responsibility, including 26 law enforcement officers, three judges and 8 civilians. "In relation to 27 suspects, a preventive measure was chosen - detention in absentia," he said.

He emphasized that the decision on detention in absentia gives grounds for an international search for the accused. In particular, we are talking about such decisions in relation to ex-president Viktor Yanukovych, former heads of the Ministry of Defense and the Security Service of Ukraine, law enforcement officers of various levels.
